PAIA Manual

Maia Karnecka — karnecka.dev

Updated: 14 September 2026

This is my manual under section 51 of the Promotion of Access to Information Act 2 of 2000 (PAIA). It explains what records I hold and how to ask me for one.

1. List of acronyms and abbreviations

TermMeaning
PAIAPromotion of Access to Information Act 2 of 2000
POPIAProtection of Personal Information Act 4 of 2013
GDPRGeneral Data Protection Regulation (EU) 2016/679
Information OfficerThe person responsible for this body's compliance with PAIA and POPIA — for a sole proprietor, the owner, by default
Information RegulatorThe South African regulator for both PAIA and POPIA

2. Purpose of the PAIA manual

Section 51 of PAIA requires every private body to publish a manual describing the records it holds and how to request access to them. This manual exists so that anyone — not only a client — knows what I hold and how to ask for it, without needing to guess.

4. Guide on how to use PAIA and how to obtain it

The Information Regulator publishes a general guide on how to use PAIA, as required by PAIA section 10. You can get a copy from the Information Regulator directly, at the contact details below, or from its website. To request a record from me under this manual, email me at maia@karnecka.dev, describe the record you want as precisely as you can, and I will respond within the time PAIA allows.

5. Categories of records available without a request

Everything published on karnecka.dev is available to anyone without a request: this manual, my privacy policy, and the description of my work and services on the site's other pages.

6. Description of records available in terms of section 51

Subject to PAIA's grounds for refusal, I hold and can be asked for: correspondence with clients and enquirers; contracts and engagement letters; invoices and financial records relating to my work; and records of enquiries submitted through this website. I do not hold records I have not yet been asked to create — a request under this manual is for records that already exist.

7. Subjects on which the body holds records

8. Processing of personal information

How I collect, use and protect personal information — including what this site's two AI agents do with what you type — is set out in full in my privacy policy, not repeated here. Read the privacy policy →

9. Availability of the manual

This manual is available on this website, at the head office address above for inspection during business hours, on request by emailing maia@karnecka.dev, and to the Information Regulator on request.

10. Updating of the manual

I will update this manual the day anything above changes — not before, not after.
